Who’s Been Around The Neighborhood Awhile? - Roberta

by Barbara DeCofano

robertaRoberta Knight was born in Memphis, MO, but moved to So. CA in 1945 where her family ended up living by the same good friends and neighbors they had in Memphis. The neighbors had a son, Joe, who finally got to see Roberta all grown up. They got married and Roberta became a loving homemaker. Together she and Joe raised four children. They have seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Husband Joe was a milkman replete with horse and wagon. In 1975, Joe suffered a heart attack and 12 yrs later had major heart surgery. During this time, Roberta went to work for Riverside County as a secretary for the department head while also caring for both sets of parents. She and Joe were able to make time to visit all but four of the United States in their camper truck.

Roberta was raised in a Christian home, but it wasn’t until she was 25 that she understood the full meaning of salvation. Joe received Christ after a Billy Graham Crusade. Both were baptized on the same Easter Sunday.

Some time after Joe’s death, Roberta moved in with her brother when he needed her. Later she moved to Placerville to help her friend care for her terminally ill husband. When son Terry and wife Cindy moved to Happy Valley, they asked Roberta to join them. She did in 2004 and started attending NCAC.

Roberta has served with AWANA, helps fold the TALK and Sunday Bulletin, attends Harvesters and is part of several Bible Study Groups. She has many favorite Bible verses, but is especially fond of Proverbs 3:5-6. Roberta always ends her daily devotions with the following: “This is the day that You have made...I love You God and thank You for saving me so that I can use Your full armor and demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit. I am powerless without you, but all things are possible with You, so I surrender all.”

Roberta has spent a lifetime loving her God, family and friends. She is a ready listener and prayer warrior; being with her is uplifting.
