News Briefs From The Life Of Neighborhood Church: (Summer 2011)

Leadership Ascent:
Sixteen men from our Leadership Advisory Council participated in the annual Leadership Ascent, which was held this year in March in Oregon. Their discussions focused on teachings of Jesus regarding discipleship, and they evaluated some observations of David Platt in his book Radical in light of Scripture. Beginning in September, our Leadership Team plans to take our church family through a series on discipleship and encourage us all to study some of the Bible passages discussed in Platt’s book, now on sale in the foyer.

Resurrection Sunday:
On April 24 we held our celebration of Easter Sunday back at our building on Rhonda Road, after having worshipped for the past three Easters at the Anderson High School Gym. Before Easter, several home groups went door-to-door in our community giving out invitations to our Easter Services. Over 600 people came together to worship our Risen Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday. Our High School Youth and Fourth Graders also served muffins, coffee and funnel cakes between our two worship services!

Welcome to the Neighborhood:
We continue to have visitors to our church attend “Welcome to the Neighborhood” (also called “Neighborhood in Nine”) almost every Sunday. Please pray for us as we seek to welcome new people and help them get enfolded into our church family. We’d also like to encourage everyone (that means you!) to be welcoming to those who are new to our church: Get to know them, go with them to “Neighborhood in Nine,” invite them out for a meal, tell them about your home group, pray with them, or introduce them to your friends.

Redemptive Work:
Various people from Neighborhood Church have been hard at work through creative ways of redeeming their time and raising money for worthwhile projects: Dozens of people worked together to cut and split firewood to raise money for camp scholarships. A number of people volunteered to help sell roses on Mother’s Day, which raised nearly $1000 for Life Light Pregnancy Center. A Run for Relief for Burma raised nearly $3000 to help displaced peoples in that country. Thanks to all who participated!
