The Radical Experiment

With God's help, I, ______________________________________________, commit to a one-year experiment of radical living according to the Gospel and to making myself open to the permanent changes that God wants to make in my life as a result of this experiment.

Over the next year…

  1. I will pray for the entire world, regularly lifting up to God the needs of other nations and people groups. To make this commitment in my life, I will: (Choose one or more of the following…)
  1. I will read through the entire Word, following a plan to consistently immerse myself in the Scriptures. To make this commitment in my life, I will: (Choose one of the following…)
      • Read 3-4 chapters from the Bible each day. (You can finish in a year with 4 chapters/day, 25 days/month.)
      • Purchase and use a One Year Bible (available in a variety of translations through amazon.com or cbd.com).
      • Use the “Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan” (available in foyer or online here). Use the “Read through the Bible Plan for Shirkers and Slackers” (available in the foyer or online here).
      • Use a Bible reading plan from http://www.esv.org/resources/reading-plans-devotions (which has options for PDF charts, daily emails, online readings, and RSS feeds).
      • Other: __________________________________________________________________ (Note that if the thought of reading through the entire Bible is too overwhelming, it’s better to set a goal and make a plan that would still get you immersed in Scripture regularly rather than not do anything at all. For example, you could read through the entire New Testament in a year by reading just one chapter a day, five days each week.)
  1. I will sacrifice my money for a specific Kingdom purpose, seeking to use my financial resources to promote the glory of Christ in the world. To make this commitment in my life, I will:
      • Begin or increase giving to my local church. (Make checks to “NCAC” and put in any offering box. Or give online here.)
      • Give to a missionary laboring for God’s glory among the nations. Check with our church office (365-3331) for a list of missionaries who are underfunded.
      • Give towards helping the poor internationally:
          • Sponsor a Hope Alive! child each month (Visit www.hopealiveafrica.org or call 1-800-487-4224.)
          • Give to an organization that provides food for the poor such as Food for the Hungry (www.fh.org).
      • Give to a local ministry that serves those in need in our community in the name of Christ such as:
          • Good News Rescue Mission (P .O. Box 991626 Redding, CA 96099)
          • Anderson Cottonwood Christian Assistance (2979 East Center Street, Anderson, CA 96007)
          • LifeLight Pregnancy Center (2919 Bechelli Lane, Redding, CA 96002)

  1. I will spend time in another context, taking a step of faith to reach out and serve others in another culture besides my own through Gospel ministry. To make this commitment in my life, I will:
      • Consider joining a team from Neighborhood Church in Summer 2012.

      • Consider cultivating friendships with people from other cultures who live in our own community.

  1. I will commit myself to a multiplying community with other believers, together seeking to encourage each other towards delight in and devotion to God and His purposes. To make this commitment, I will:
      • (If not already doing so), commit to regular participation in Sunday Morning Worship and Sunday School.
      • (If not already doing so), commit to involvement in a home group, men’s group, or women’s group.
          • To learn about existing groups, check out the Small Group Bulletin Board in the foyer
          • To start a new home group (which are always needed!), talk with Ryan Wildauer (365-3331 or 949-2129)
      • (If not already doing so), be intentional about serving and discipling others in my community of believers.
      • (If not already doing so), pray that God would grow and multiply my community both in numbers and in maturity, while seeking opportunities to reach out and invite others into Christ’s Church.
