We’re All Meant To Serve One Another
At Neighborhood Church, it is our delight to serve God’s Church and to see others serve God’s Church—using our God-given gifts for God’s glory.
The Bible makes it clear that serving God’s Church is not the responsibility of a select few, but the high privilege of all God’s people: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 4:10-11)
How Do We Serve One Another?
Although much of our service to each other happens informally—through things such as helping, encouraging, challenging, and praying for each other, there are many ministry roles in the church which are a bit more “official.”
These more “official” ministry roles include things like being a Small Group Leader, a Sunday School or Children’s Church Teacher, a Nursery Worker, an Usher or Greeter, an Exaltation Team Member, or a Youth Staff Member. It also includes things like serving on one of our many teams such as the Global Outreach Team, Local Outreach Team, or Maintenance Team.
How Do I Get Started Serving?
Every “official” ministry position has a team leader who approves volunteers and oversees that ministry. If you’re not sure who to contact about a particular ministry, just ask at our church office.
What’s Expected of Those Who Serve?
While each ministry team is going to have its own expectations, the following are foundational things we expect of any volunteer in our church:
Saving Faith in Jesus: First and foremost, it is essential that you acknowledge and repent of your sin before God and trust fully in the righteousness that Jesus offers through His death and resurrection.
Agreement with Foundational Christian Doctrine: For the sake of unity and the glory of God, those serving God’s Church should seek to teach and conduct themselves according to God’s Word. We describe our understanding of essential beliefs in our “Statement of Faith” brochure.
Regular Sunday Morning Attendance: By “regular,” we mean being here more often than not. Sunday Worship is an integral part of church life where we worship together, receive biblical teaching, connect with our church family, stay informed of what God is doing in our church, and recalibrate our lives to God’s purposes—all of which are essential to serving His church well.
A God-Centered Perspective: While the goal of using our gifts is to build Christ’s Church, the end of our ministry efforts according to 1 Peter 4:10-11 is to see God glorified. This means that our serving ought to result in God’s greatness being known by others who encounter Him working through us.
